Personal Statement

Growing up my parents always told my sister and I that we were going to go to college after high school because that is something neither of them had the opportunity to do. It has always been expected of us to finish college and do something we enjoy with our degrees. However, for all of high school and much of college, I listened to my peers talk about how excited they are to pursue their careers that they have been dreaming of; yet, I had no clue what I would even enjoy and want to spend my life doing. Although I started college off as a student who didn’t know where they wanted to be or what they wanted to be, I can now say and be happy saying that I am graduated with a Bachelor of Innovation with an Emphasis is Marketing and a Cross-Discipline in Globalization that enjoys working hard and striving in any position. After choosing to go through the business school and taking different classes, marketing grew to be my academic interest due to the kind of career future possibilities that have been created through it. Marketing is relied on in every company even with the special and specific needs for certain types of marketing. With the many years spent in the service industry, I have learned to expect and know the customer’s needs to create the best experience even including using my five years of American Sign Language skills when needed. This allowed the learning of what consumers will want and need especially in the industry where their opinion is needed and relied on for success. Working an internship with the City of Colorado Springs Office of Innovation and Sustainability allowed me to use the skills gathered from the service industry and expand my knowledge of graphic design and social media skills for marketing needs. Overall, using the variety of marketing classes, service industry experience, and marketing internship, my skills have grown and prospered but there is still much to learn and gain from a marketing career.
